The 34-year-old, from California, said: “Boys never talked to me, I never got asked for dances, that’s when the bad self-talk started, and I started acting out to get attention,” Ashley said.
When her parents split up just a few years later she sought refuge in junk food and fizzy drinks, resulting in her ballooning to 22st 2lbs and a size 30.
“I felt unhappy and depressed; eating huge meals at the wrong times. I didn’t like myself, I didn’t respect myself and I couldn’t even look at myself in a mirror,” she said.
“I hated to go shopping for clothes because I knew that meant bigger size trousers. I had my first son at a relatively young age of twenty-two.”
But the mum-of-three has managed to shed a whopping 12st 12lbs in a year and a half after making the brave decision to undergo weight-loss surgery.
Ashley, who works as a sales assistant, opted for for a gastric bypass when she realised she was struggling to keep up with her three children.
