1. First Noticed After a Muscle Strain
One of the important reasons for making a clear distinction between Ankylosing Spondylitis and regular back injuries is because they may start in the same way. The patient tells the doctor that all of a sudden they strained a muscle and shortly afterwards the back pains started. Even though it may begin in an identical way to a standard back injury the pains associated with this disease come from an inflammation of the spine instead of a trauma injury and therefore the treatment required differs. Another indicator that this is not standard back pain comes from the fact that stiffness of the back in the morning continue for more than half an hour.
