5. Menstrual Irregularities
Thyroid can disrupt the menstrual cycle of a woman, and cause heavier and more frequent periods. In fact, thyroid problems are often linked with early or delayed puberty and menstruation. While hypothyroidism makes the periods frequent and painful, on the other hand, hyperthyroidism makes the periods, shorter and lighter. If hypothyroidism goes undiagnosed, it can even result in infertility or miscarriage. Therefore, any noticeable changes in the menstrual cycle should be reported to the doctor at the earliest.
