10. Family History
Individuals who have a family history of thyroid disease are quite vulnerable to the disease itself. Having a first-degree relative, particularly a close female relative with hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism is a major risk factor as thyroid is believed to have a strong link with genes. Other than that, a person needs to be vigilant if they have a family history of any autoimmune disorder. The genetics basis for thyroid problems is not exactly clear.
